| 53:1 | وَالنَّجْمِ إِذَا هَوَى By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). Wa An-Najmi 'Idha Hawá |
| 53:2 | مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُم وَمَا غَوَى Your companion (Muhammad SAW) has neither gone astray nor has erred. Ma Đalla Şaĥibukum Wa Ma Ghawá |
| 53:3 | وَمَا يَنْطِقُ عَنِ الهَوَى Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. Wa Ma Yanţiqu `Ani Al-Hawá |
| 53:4 | إِن هُوَ إِلاَّ وَحي ٌ يُوحَى It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. 'In Huwa 'Illa Waĥyun Yūĥá |
| 53:5 | عَلَّمَه ُُ شَدِيدُ القُوَى He has been taught (this Qur'an) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. `Allamahu Shadidu Al-Quwá |
| 53:6 | ذُو مِرَّة ٍ فَاستَوَى Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. Dhū Mirratin Fastawá |
| 53:7 | وَهُوَ بِالأُفُقِ الأَعلَى While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, Wa Huwa Bil-'Ufuqi Al-'A`lá |
| 53:8 | ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّى Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, Thumma Dana Fatadallá |
| 53:9 | فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوسَينِ أَو أَدْنَى And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, Fakana Qaba Qawsayni 'Aw 'Adná |
| 53:10 | فَأَوحَى إِلَى عَبْدِه ِِ مَا أَوحَى So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. Fa'awĥá 'Ilá `Abdihi Ma 'Awĥá |
| 53:11 | مَا كَذَبَ الفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَى The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. Ma Kadhaba Al-Fu'uadu Ma Ra'á |
| 53:12 | أَفَتُمَارُونَه ُُ عَلَى مَا يَرَى Will you then dispute with him (Muhammad SAW) about what he saw [during the Mi'raj: (Ascent of the Prophet SAW over the seven heavens)]. 'Afatumarūnahu `Alá Ma Yará |
| 53:13 | وَلَقَدرَآهُ نَزلَةً أُخرَى And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time). Wa Laqad Ra'ahu Nazlatan 'Ukhrá |
| 53:14 | عِنْدَ سِدْرَةِ المُنْتَهَى Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], `Inda Sidrati Al-Muntahá |
| 53:15 | عِنْدَهَا جَنَّةُ المَأْوَى Near it is the Paradise of Abode. `Indaha Jannatu Al-Ma'wá |
| 53:16 | إِذ يَغشَى السِّدْرَةَ مَا يَغشَى When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 'Idh Yaghshá As-Sidrata Ma Yaghshá |
| 53:17 | مَا زَاغَ البَصَرُ وَمَا طَغَى The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it). Ma Zagha Al-Başaru Wa Ma Ţaghá |
| 53:18 | لَقَدرَأَى مِنآيَاتِ رَبِّهِ الكُبْرَى Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah). Laqad Ra'á Min 'Āyati Rabbihi Al-Kubrá |
| 53:19 | أَفَرَأَيتُمُ اللاَّتَ وَالعُزَّى Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs) 'Afara'aytumu Al-Lata Wa Al-`Uzzá |
| 53:20 | وَمَنَاةَ الثَّالِثَةَ الأُخرَى And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? Wa Manaata Ath-Thalithata Al-'Ukhrá |
| 53:21 | أَلَكُمُ الذَّكَرُ وَلَهُ الأُنثَى Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 'Alakumu Adh-Dhakaru Wa Lahu Al-'Unthá |
| 53:22 | تِلكَ إِذا ً قِسمَة ٌ ضِيزَى That indeed is a division most unfair! Tilka 'Idhaan Qismatun Đizá |
| 53:23 | إِن هِيَ إِلاَّ أَسمَاء ٌ سَمَّيتُمُوهَا أَنْتُم وَآبَاؤُكُممَا أَنزَلَ اللَّهُ بِهَا مِنسُلطَان ٍ إِنيَتَّبِعُونَ إِلاَّ الظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهوَى الأَنْفُسُ وَلَقَدجَاءَهُممِنرَبِّهِمُ الهُدَى They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 'In Hiya 'Illa 'Asma'un Sammaytumūha 'Antum Wa 'Āba'uukum Ma 'Anzala Allahu Biha Min Sulţanin 'In Yattabi`ūna 'Illa Až-Žanna Wa Ma Tahwá Al-'Anfusu Wa Laqad Ja'ahum Min Rabbihimu Al-Hudá |
| 53:24 | أَم لِلإِنسَانِ مَا تَمَنَّى Or shall man have what he wishes? 'Am Lil'insani Ma Tamanná |
| 53:25 | فَلِلَّهِ الآخِرَةُ وَالأُولَى But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). Falillahi Al-'Ākhiratu Wa Al-'Ūlá |
| 53:26 | وَكَممِنمَلَك ٍ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ لاَ تُغنِي شَفَاعَتُهُم شَيئا ً إِلاَّ مِنبَعدِ أَنيَأْذَنَ اللَّهُ لِمَنيَشَاءُ وَيَرضَى And there are many angels in the heavens, whose intercession will avail nothing except after Allah has given leave for whom He wills and pleases. Wa Kam Min Malakin Fi As-Samawati La Tughni Shafa`atuhum Shay'aan 'Illa Min Ba`di 'An Ya'dhana Allahu Liman Yasha'u Wa Yarđá |
| 53:27 | إِنَّ الَّذِينَ لاَ يُؤمِنُونَ بِالآخِرَةِ لَيُسَمُّونَ المَلاَئِكَةَ تَسمِيَةَ الأُنْثَى Verily, those who believe not in the Hereafter, name the angels with female names. 'Inna Al-Ladhina La Yu'uminūna Bil-'Ākhirati Layusammūna Al-Mala'ikata Tasmiyata Al-'Unthá |
| 53:28 | وَمَا لَهُمبِه ِِ مِن عِلم ٍ إِنيَتَّبِعُونَ إِلاَّ الظَّنَّ وَإِنَّ الظَّنَّ لاَ يُغنِي مِنَ الحَقِّ شَيئا ً While they have no knowledge thereof. They follow but a guess, and verily, guess is no substitute for the truth. Wa Ma Lahum Bihi Min `Ilmin 'In Yattabi`ūna 'Illa Až-Žanna Wa 'Inna Až-Žanna La Yughni Mina Al-Ĥaqqi Shay'aan |
| 53:29 | فَأَعرِض عَنمَنتَوَلَّى عَنذِكرِنَا وَلَم يُرِدإِلاَّ الحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا Therefore withdraw (O Muhammad SAW) from him who turns away from Our Reminder (this Qur'an) and desires nothing but the life of this world. Fa'a`riđ `An Man Tawallá `An Dhikrina Wa Lam Yurid 'Illa Al-Ĥayaata Ad-Dunya |
| 53:30 | ذَلِكَ مَبْلَغُهُممِنَ العِلمِ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعلَمُ بِمَنضَلَّ عَنسَبِيلِه ِِ وَهُوَ أَعلَمُ بِمَنِ اهتَدَى That is what they could reach of knowledge. Verily, your Lord it is He Who knows best him who goes astray from His Path, and He knows best him who receives guidance. Dhalika Mablaghuhum Mina Al-`Ilmi 'Inna Rabbaka Huwa 'A`lamu Biman Đalla `An Sabilihi Wa Huwa 'A`lamu Bimani Ahtadá |
| 53:31 | وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الأَرضِ لِيَجْزِيَ الَّذِينَ أَسَاءُوا بِمَا عَمِلُوا وَيَجْزِيَ الَّذِينَ أَحسَنُوا بِالحُسنَى And to Allah belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth, that He may requite those who do evil with that which they have done (i.e. punish them in Hell), and reward those who do good, with what is best (i.e. Paradise). Wa Lillahi Ma Fi As-Samawati Wa Ma Fi Al-'Arđi Liyajziya Al-Ladhina 'Asa'ū Bima `Amilū Wa Yajziya Al-Ladhina 'Aĥsanū Bil-Ĥusná |
| 53:32 | الَّذِينَ يَجْتَنِبُونَ كَبَائِرَ الإِثمِ وَالفَوَاحِشَ إِلاَّ اللَّمَمَ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ وَاسِعُ المَغفِرَةِ هُوَ أَعلَمُ بِكُم إِذ أَنشَأَكُممِنَ الأَرضِ وَإِذ أَنْتُم أَجِنَّة ٌ فِي بُطُونِ أُمَّهَاتِكُم فَلاَ تُزَكُّوا أَنفُسَكُم هُوَ أَعلَمُ بِمَنِ اتَّقَى Those who avoid great sins (see the Qur'an, Verses: 6:152,153) and Al-Fawahish (illegal sexual intercourse, etc.) except the small faults, verily, your Lord is of vast forgiveness. He knows you well when He created you from the earth (Adam), and when you were fetuses in your mothers' wombs. So ascribe not purity to yourselves. He knows best him who fears Allah and keep his duty to Him [i.e. those who are Al-Muttaqun (pious - see V.2:2)]. Al-Ladhina Yajtanibūna Kaba'ira Al-'Ithmi Wa Al-Fawaĥisha 'Illa Al-Lamama 'Inna Rabbaka Wasi`u Al-Maghfirati Huwa 'A`lamu Bikum 'Idh 'Ansha'akum Mina Al-'Arđi Wa 'Idh 'Antum 'Ajinnatun Fi Buţūni 'Ummahatikum Fala Tuzakkū 'Anfusakum Huwa 'A`lamu Bimani Attaqá |
| 53:33 | أَفَرَأَيتَ الَّذِي تَوَلَّى Did you (O Muhammad SAW) observe him who turned away (from Islam). 'Afara'ayta Al-Ladhi Tawallá |
| 53:34 | وَأَعطَى قَلِيلا ً وَأَكدَى And gave a little, then stopped (giving)? Wa 'A`ţá Qalilaan Wa 'Akdá |
| 53:35 | أَعِنْدَه ُُ عِلمُ الغَيبِ فَهُوَ يَرَى Is with him the knowledge of the unseen so that he sees? 'A`indahu `Ilmu Al-Ghaybi Fahuwa Yará |
| 53:36 | أَم لَم يُنَبَّأبِمَا فِي صُحُفِ مُوسَى Or is he not informed with what is in the Pages (Scripture) of Musa (Moses), 'Am Lam Yunabba' Bima Fi Şuĥufi Mūsá |
| 53:37 | وَإِبْرَاهِيمَ الَّذِي وَفَّى And of Ibrahim (Abraham) who fulfilled (or conveyed) all that (what Allah ordered him to do or convey), Wa 'Ibrahima Al-Ladhi Wa Ffá |
| 53:38 | أَلاَّ تَزِرُ وَازِرَة ٌ وِزرَ أُخرَى That no burdened person (with sins) shall bear the burden (sins) of another, 'Alla Taziru Waziratun Wizra 'Ukhrá |
| 53:39 | وَأَنلَيسَ لِلإِنسَانِ إِلاَّ مَا سَعَى And that man can have nothing but what he does (good or bad), Wa 'An Laysa Lil'insani 'Illa Ma Sa`á |
| 53:40 | وَأَنَّ سَعيَه ُُ سَوفَ يُرَى And that his deeds will be seen, Wa 'Anna Sa`yahu Sawfa Yurá |
| 53:41 | ثُمَّ يُجْزَاهُ الجَزَاءَ الأَوفَى Then he will be recompensed with a full and the best recompense Thumma Yujzahu Al-Jaza'a Al-'Awfá |
| 53:42 | وَأَنَّ إِلَى رَبِّكَ المُنْتَهَى And that to your Lord (Allah) is the End (Return of everything). Wa 'Anna 'Ilá Rabbika Al-Muntahá |
| 53:43 | وَأَنَّه ُُ هُوَ أَضحَكَ وَأَبْكَى And that it is He (Allah) Who makes (whom He wills) laugh, and makes (whom He wills) weep; Wa 'Annahu Huwa 'Ađĥaka Wa 'Abká |
| 53:44 | وَأَنَّه ُُ هُوَ أَمَاتَ وَأَحيَا And that it is He (Allah) Who causes death and gives life; Wa 'Annahu Huwa 'Amata Wa 'Aĥya |
| 53:45 | وَأَنَّه ُُ خَلَقَ الزَّوجَينِ الذَّكَرَ وَالأُنْثَى And that He (Allah) creates the pairs, male and female, Wa 'Annahu Khalaqa Az-Zawjayni Adh-Dhakara Wa Al-'Unthá |
| 53:46 | مِننُطْفَة ٍ إِذَا تُمنَى From Nutfah (drops of semen male and female discharges) when it is emitted; Min Nuţfatin 'Idha Tumná |
| 53:47 | وَأَنَّ عَلَيهِ النَّشأَةَ الأُخرَى And that upon Him (Allah) is another bringing forth (Resurrection); Wa 'Anna `Alayhi An-Nash'ata Al-'Ukhrá |
| 53:48 | وَأَنَّه ُُ هُوَ أَغنَى وَأَقْنَى And that it is He (Allah) Who gives much or a little (or gives wealth and contentment), Wa 'Annahu Huwa 'Aghná Wa 'Aqná |
| 53:49 | وَأَنَّه ُُ هُوَ رَبُّ الشِّعرَى And that He (Allah) is the Lord of Sirius (the star which the pagan Arabs used to worship); Wa 'Annahu Huwa Rabbu Ash-Shi`rá |
| 53:50 | وَأَنَّهُ~ُ أَهلَكَ عَادا ً الأُولَى And that it is He (Allah) Who destroyed the former 'Ad (people), Wa 'Annahu 'Ahlaka `Ādaan Al-'Ūlá |
| 53:51 | وَثَمُودَ فَمَا أَبْقَى And Thamud (people). He spared none of them. Wa Thamūda Fama 'Abqá |
| 53:52 | وَقَومَ نُوح ٍ مِنقَبْلُ إِنَّهُم كَانُوا هُم أَظلَمَ وَأَطْغَى And the people of Nuh aforetime, they were most oppressive and transgressing. Wa Qawma Nūĥin Min Qablu 'Innahum Kanū Hum 'Ažlama Wa 'Aţghá |
| 53:53 | وَالمُؤتَفِكَةَ أَهوَى And He destroyed the overthrown cities [of Sodom to which Prophet Lout (Lot) was sent]. Wa Al-Mu'utafikata 'Ahwá |
| 53:54 | فَغَشَّاهَا مَا غَشَّى So there covered them that which did cover (i.e. torment with stones). Faghashshaha Ma Ghashshá |
| 53:55 | فَبِأَيِّ آلاَءِ رَبِّكَ تَتَمَارَى Then which of the Graces of your Lord (O man!) will you doubt. Fabi'ayyi 'Āla'i Rabbika Tatamará |
| 53:56 | هَذَا نَذِير ٌ مِنَ النُّذُرِ الأُولَى This (Muhammad SAW) is a warner (Messenger) of the (series of) warners (Messengers) of old . Hadha Nadhirun Mina An-Nudhuri Al-'Ūlá |
| 53:57 | أَزِفَتِ الآزِفَةُ The Day of Resurrection draws near, 'Azifati Al-'Āzifahu |
| 53:58 | لَيسَ لَهَا مِندُونِ اللَّهِ كَاشِفَة ٌ None besides Allah can avert it, (or advance it, or delay it). Laysa Laha Min Dūni Allahi Kashifahun |
| 53:59 | أَفَمِن هَذَا الحَدِيثِ تَعجَبُونَ Do you then wonder at this recital (the Qur'an)? 'Afamin Hadha Al-Ĥadithi Ta`jabūna |
| 53:60 | وَتَضحَكُونَ وَلاَ تَبْكُونَ And you laugh at it and weep not, Wa Tađĥakūna Wa La Tabkūna |
| 53:61 | وَأَنْتُم سَامِدُونَ Wasting your (precious) lifetime in pastime and amusements (singing, etc.). Wa 'Antum Samidūna |
| 53:62 | فَاسجُدُوا لِلَّهِ وَاعبُدُوا So fall you down in prostration to Allah, and worship Him (Alone). Fasjudū Lillahi Wa A`budū |
