| 71:1 | إِنَّا أَرسَلنَا نُوحا ً إِلَى قَومِهِ~ِ أَن أَنذِر قَومَكَ مِنقَبْلِ أَنيَأْتِيَهُم عَذَابٌ أَلِيم ٌ Verily, We sent Nuh (Noah) to his people (Saying): "Warn your people before there comes to them a painful torment." 'Inna 'Arsalna Nūĥaan 'Ilá Qawmihi 'An 'Andhir Qawmaka Min Qabli 'An Ya'tiyahum `Adhabun 'Alimun |
| 71:2 | قَالَ يَاقَومِ إِنِّي لَكُم نَذِير ٌ مُبِين ٌ He said: "O my people! Verily, I am a plain warner to you, Qala Ya Qawmi 'Inni Lakum Nadhirun Mubinun |
| 71:3 | أَنِ اعبُدُوا اللَّهَ وَاتَّقُوه ُُ وَأَطِيعُونِ "That you should worship Allah (Alone), be dutiful to Him, and obey me, 'Ani A`budū Allaha Wa Attaqūhu Wa 'Aţi`ūni |
| 71:4 | يَغفِر لَكُممِنذُنُوبِكُم وَيُؤَخِّركُم إِلَى أَجَل ٍ مُسَمّى ً إِنَّ أَجَلَ اللَّهِ إِذَا جَاءَ لاَ يُؤَخَّرُ لَو كُنتُم تَعلَمُونَ "He (Allah) will forgive you of your sins and respite you to an appointed term. Verily, the term of Allah when it comes, cannot be delayed, if you but knew." Yaghfir Lakum Min Dhunūbikum Wa Yu'uakhkhirkum 'Ilá 'Ajalin Musammáan 'Inna 'Ajala Allahi 'Idha Ja'a La Yu'uakhkharu Law Kuntum Ta`lamūna |
| 71:5 | قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي دَعَوتُ قَومِي لَيلا ً وَنَهَارا ً He said: "O my Lord! Verily, I have called my people night and day (i.e. secretly and openly to accept the doctrine of Islamic Monotheism), Qala Rabbi 'Inni Da`awtu Qawmi Laylaan Wa Naharaan |
| 71:6 | فَلَم يَزِدْهُم دُعَائِي إِلاَّ فِرَارا ً "But all my calling added nothing but to (their) flight (from the truth). Falam Yazid/hum Du`a'i 'Illa Firaraan |
| 71:7 | وَإِنِّي كُلَّمَا دَعَوتُهُم لِتَغفِرَ لَهُم جَعَلُوا أَصَابِعَهُم فِي آذَانِهِم وَاستَغشَوا ثِيَابَهُم وَأَصَرُّوا وَاستَكبَرُوا استِكبَارا ً "And verily! Every time I called unto them that You might forgive them, they thrust their fingers into their ears, covered themselves up with their garments, and persisted (in their refusal), and magnified themselves in pride. Wa 'Inni Kullama Da`awtuhum Litaghfira Lahum Ja`alū 'Aşabi`ahum Fi 'Ādhanihim Wa Astaghshaw Thiyabahum Wa 'Aşarrū Wa Astakbarū Astikbaraan |
| 71:8 | ثُمَّ إِنِّي دَعَوتُهُم جِهَارا ً "Then verily, I called to them openly (aloud); Thumma 'Inni Da`awtuhum Jiharaan |
| 71:9 | ثُمَّ إِنِّي أَعلَنتُ لَهُم وَأَسرَرتُ لَهُم إِسرَارا ً "Then verily, I proclaimed to them in public, and I have appealed to them in private, Thumma 'Inni 'A`lantu Lahum Wa 'Asrartu Lahum 'Israraan |
| 71:10 | فَقُلتُ استَغفِرُوا رَبَّكُم إِنَّه ُُ كَانَ غَفَّارا ً "I said (to them): 'Ask forgiveness from your Lord; Verily, He is Oft-Forgiving; Faqultu Astaghfirū Rabbakum 'Innahu Kana Ghaffaraan |
| 71:11 | يُرسِلِ السَّمَاءَ عَلَيكُممِدْرَارا ً 'He will send rain to you in abundance; Yursili As-Sama'a `Alaykum Midraraan |
| 71:12 | وَيُمدِدْكُمبِأَموَال ٍ وَبَنِينَ وَيَجْعَللَكُم جَنَّات ٍ وَيَجْعَللَكُم أَنهَارا ً 'And give you increase in wealth and children, and bestow on you gardens and bestow on you rivers.' " Wa Yumdidkum Bi'amwalin Wa Banina Wa Yaj`al Lakum Jannatin Wa Yaj`al Lakum 'Anharaan |
| 71:13 | مَا لَكُم لاَ تَرجُونَ لِلَّهِ وَقَارا ً What is the matter with you, [that you fear not Allah (His punishment), and] you hope not for reward (from Allah or you believe not in His Oneness). Ma Lakum La Tarjūna Lillahi Waqaraan |
| 71:14 | وَقَدخَلَقَكُم أَطْوَارا ً While He has created you in (different) stages [i.e. first Nutfah, then 'Alaqah and then Mudghah, see (VV.23:13,14) the Qur'an]. Wa Qad Khalaqakum 'Aţwaraan |
| 71:15 | أَلَم تَرَوا كَيفَ خَلَقَ اللَّهُ سَبْعَ سَمَاوَات ٍ طِبَاقا ً See you not how Allah has created the seven heavens one above another, 'Alam Taraw Kayfa Khalaqa Allahu Sab`a Samawatin Ţibaqaan |
| 71:16 | وَجَعَلَ القَمَرَ فِيهِنَّ نُورا ً وَجَعَلَ الشَّمسَ سِرَاجا ً And has made the moon a light therein, and made the sun a lamp? Wa Ja`ala Al-Qamara Fihinna Nūraan Wa Ja`ala Ash-Shamsa Sirajaan |
| 71:17 | وَاللَّهُ أَنْبَتَكُممِنَ الأَرضِ نَبَاتا ً And Allah has brought you forth from the (dust of) earth. [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol.29, Page 97]. Wa Allahu 'Anbatakum Mina Al-'Arđi Nabataan |
| 71:18 | ثُمَّ يُعِيدُكُم فِيهَا وَيُخرِجُكُم إِخرَاجا ً Afterwards He will return you into it (the earth), and bring you forth (again on the Day of Resurrection)? Thumma Yu`idukum Fiha Wa Yukhrijukum 'Ikhrajaan |
| 71:19 | وَاللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُمُ الأَرضَ بِسَاطا ً And Allah has made for you the earth wide spread (an expanse). Wa Allahu Ja`ala Lakumu Al-'Arđa Bisaţaan |
| 71:20 | لِتَسلُكُوا مِنهَا سُبُلا ً فِجَاجا ً That you may go about therein in broad roads. Litaslukū Minha Subulaan Fijajaan |
| 71:21 | قَالَ نُوح ٌ رَبِّ إِنَّهُم عَصَونِي وَاتَّبَعُوا مَنلَم يَزِدْهُ مَالُه ُُ وَوَلَدُهُ~ُ إِلاَّ خَسَارا ً Nuh (Noah) said: "My Lord! They have disobeyed me, and followed one whose wealth and children give him no increase but only loss. Qala Nūĥun Rabbi 'Innahum `Aşawni Wa Attaba`ū Man Lam Yazid/hu Maluhu Wa Waladuhu 'Illa Khasaraan |
| 71:22 | وَمَكَرُوا مَكرا ً كُبَّارا ً "And they have plotted a mighty plot. Wa Makarū Makraan Kubbaraan |
| 71:23 | وَقَالُوا لاَ تَذَرُنَّ آلِهَتَكُم وَلاَ تَذَرُنَّ وَدّا ً وَلاَ سُوَاعا ً وَلاَ يَغُوثَ وَيَعُوقَ وَنَسرا ً "And they have said: 'You shall not leave your gods, nor shall you leave Wadd, nor Suwa', nor Yaghuth, nor Ya'uq, nor Nasr (names of the idols); Wa Qalū La Tadharunna 'Ālihatakum Wa La Tadharunna Waddaan Wa La Suwa`aan Wa La Yaghūtha Wa Ya`ūqa Wa Nasraan |
| 71:24 | وَقَدأَضَلُّوا كَثِيرا ً وَلاَ تَزِدِ الظَّالِمِينَ إِلاَّ ضَلاَلا ً "And indeed they have led many astray. And (O Allah): 'Grant no increase to the Zalimun (polytheists, wrong-doers, and disbelievers, etc.) save error.' " Wa Qad 'Ađallū Kathiraan Wa La Tazidi Až-Žalimina 'Illa Đalalaan |
| 71:25 | مِمَّا خَطِيئَاتِهِم أُغرِقُوا فَأُدْخِلُوا نَارا ً فَلَم يَجِدُوا لَهُممِندُونِ اللَّهِ أَنْصَارا ً Because of their sins they were drowned, then were made to enter the Fire, and they found none to help them instead of Allah. Mimma Khaţi'atihim 'Ughriqū Fa'udkhilū Naraan Falam Yajidū Lahum Min Dūni Allahi 'Anşaraan |
| 71:26 | وَقَالَ نُوح ٌ رَبِّ لاَ تَذَر عَلَى الأَرضِ مِنَ الكَافِرِينَ دَيَّارا ً And Nuh (Noah) said: "My Lord! Leave not one of the disbelievers on the earth! Wa Qala Nūĥun Rabbi La Tadhar `Alá Al-'Arđi Mina Al-Kafirina Dayyaraan |
| 71:27 | إِنَّكَ إِنتَذَرهُم يُضِلُّوا عِبَادَكَ وَلاَ يَلِدُوا إِلاَّ فَاجِرا ً كَفَّارا ً "If You leave them, they will mislead Your slaves, and they will beget none but wicked disbelievers." 'Innaka 'In Tadharhum Yuđillū `Ibadaka Wa La Yalidū 'Illa Fajiraan Kaffaraan |
| 71:28 | رَبِّ اغفِر لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ وَلِمَندَخَلَ بَيتِيَ مُؤمِنا ً وَلِلمُؤمِنِينَ وَالمُؤمِنَاتِ وَلاَ تَزِدِ الظَّالِمِينَ إِلاَّ تَبَارا ً "My Lord! Forgive me, and my parents, and him who enters my home as a believer, and all the believing men and women. And to the Zalimun (polytheists, wrong-doers, and disbelievers, etc.) grant You no increase but destruction!" Rabbi Aghfir Li Wa Liwalidayya Wa Liman Dakhala Baytiya Mu'uminaan Wa Lilmu'uminina Wa Al-Mu'uminati Wa La Tazidi Až-Žalimina 'Illa Tabaraan |
