Al-A'la [The Most HIgh] 19 verses, revealed in Makkah


(87) Surat Al-A'la سُورَة الأعلَى

87:1

سَبِّحِ اسمَ رَبِّكَ الأَعلَى

Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High,

Sabbiĥi Asma Rabbika Al-'A`lá

87:2

الَّذِي خَلَقَ فَسَوَّى

Who has created (everything), and then proportioned it;

Al-Ladhi Khalaqa Fasawwá

87:3

وَالَّذِي قَدَّرَ فَهَدَى

And Who has measured (preordainments for each and everything even to be blessed or wretched); then guided (i.e. showed mankind the right as well as wrong paths, and guided the animals to pasture);

Wa Al-Ladhi Qaddara Fahadá

87:4

وَالَّذِي أَخرَجَ المَرعَى

And Who brings out the pasturage,

Wa Al-Ladhi 'Akhraja Al-Mar`á

87:5

فَجَعَلَه ُُ غُثَاءً أَحوَى

And then makes it dark stubble.

Faja`alahu Ghutha'an 'Aĥwá

87:6

سَنُقْرِئُكَ فَلاَ تَنسَى

We shall make you to recite (the Qur'an), so you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) shall not forget (it),

Sanuqri'uka Fala Tan

87:7

إِلاَّ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ إِنَّه ُُ يَعلَمُ الجَهرَ وَمَا يَخفَى

Except what Allah, may will, He knows what is apparent and what is hidden.

'Illa Ma Sha'a Allahu 'Innahu Ya`lamu Al-Jahra Wa Ma Yakhfá

87:8

وَنُيَسِّرُكَ لِليُسرَى

And We shall make easy for you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) the easy way (i.e. the doing of righteous deeds).

Wa Nuyassiruka Lilyusrá

87:9

فَذَكِّر إِننَفَعَتِ الذِّكرَى

Therefore remind (men) in case the reminder profits (them).

Fadhakkir 'In Nafa`ati Adh-Dhikrá

87:10

سَيَذَّكَّرُ مَنيَخشَى

The reminder will be received by him who fears (Allah),

Sayadhdhakkaru Man Yakhshá

87:11

وَيَتَجَنَّبُهَا الأَشقَى

But it will be avoided by the wretched,

Wa Yatajannabuha Al-'Ashqá

87:12

الَّذِي يَصلَى النَّارَ الكُبْرَى

Who will enter the great Fire and made to taste its burning,

Al-Ladhi Yaşlá An-Nara Al-Kub

87:13

ثُمَّ لاَ يَمُوتُ فِيهَا وَلاَ يَحيَا

Wherein he will neither die (to be in rest) nor live (a good living).

Thumma La Yamūtu Fiha Wa La Yaĥya

87:14

قَدأَفلَحَ مَنتَزَكَّى

Indeed whosoever purifies himself (by avoiding polytheism and accepting Islamic Monotheism) shall achieve success,

Qad 'Aflaĥa Man Tazakká

87:15

وَذَكَرَ اسمَ رَبِّه ِِ فَصَلَّى

And remembers (glorifies) the Name of his Lord (worships none but Allah), and prays (five compulsory prayers and Nawafil additional prayers).

Wa Dhakara Asma Rabbihi Faşallá

87:16

بَل تُؤثِرُونَ الحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا

Nay, you prefer the life of this world;

Bal Tu'uthirūna Al-Ĥayaata Ad-Dunya

87:17

وَالآخِرَةُ خَير ٌ وَأَبْقَى

Although the Hereafter is better and more lasting.

Wa Al-'Ākhiratu Khayrun Wa 'Ab

87:18

إِنَّ هَذَا لَفِي الصُّحُفِ الأُولَى

Verily! This is in the former Scriptures,

'Inna Hadha Lafi Aş-Şuĥufi Al-'Ū

87:19

صُحُفِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَمُوسَى

The Scriptures of Ibrahim (Abraham) and Musa (Moses).

Şuĥufi 'Ibrahima Wa Mūsá
