لاَ أُقْسِمُ بِهَذَا البَلَدِ

I swear by this city (Makkah);

La 'Uqsimu Bihadha Al-Baladi

وَأَنْتَ حِلّ ٌ بِهَذَا البَلَدِ

And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah),

Wa 'Anta Ĥillun Bihadha Al-Baladi

وَوَالِد ٍ وَمَا وَلَدَ

And by the begetter (i.e. Adam) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny);

Wa Walidin Wa Ma Walada

لَقَدخَلَقْنَا الإِنسَانَ فِي كَبَد ٍ

Verily, We have created man in toil.

Laqad Khalaqna Al-'Insana Fi Kabadin

أَيَحسَبُ أَنلَنيَقْدِرَ عَلَيهِ أَحَد ٌ

Thinks he that none can overcome him?

'Ayaĥsabu 'An Lan Yaqdira `Alayhi 'Aĥadun

يَقُولُ أَهلَكتُ مَالا ً لُبَدا ً

He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!"

Yaqūlu 'Ahlaktu Malaan Lubadaan

أَيَحسَبُ أَنلَم يَرَهُ~ُ أَحَد ٌ

Thinks he that none sees him?

'Ayaĥsabu 'An Lam Yarahu 'Aĥadun

أَلَم نَجْعَللَه ُُ عَينَينِ

Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?

'Alam Naj`al Lahu `Aynayni

وَلِسَانا ً وَشَفَتَينِ

And a tongue and a pair of lips?

Wa Lisanaan Wa Shafatayni

وَهَدَينَاهُ النَّجْدَينِ

And shown him the two ways (good and evil)?

Wa Hadaynahu An-Najdayni

فَلاَ اقْتَحَمَ العَقَبَةَ

But he has made no effort to pass on the path that is steep.

Fala Aqtaĥama Al-`Aqabaha

وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا العَقَبَةُ

And what will make you know the path that is steep?

Wa Ma 'Adraka Ma Al-`Aqabahu

فَكُّ رَقَبَة ٍ

(It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.).

Fakku Raqabahin

أَو إِطْعَام ٌ فِي يَوم ٍ ذِي مَسغَبَة ٍ

Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine),

'Aw 'Iţ`amun Fi Yawmin Dhi Masghabahin

يَتِيما ً ذَا مَقْرَبَة ٍ

To an orphan near of kin.

Yatimaan Dha Maqrabahin

أَو مِسكِينا ً ذَا مَترَبَة ٍ

Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery.

'Aw Miskinaan Dha Matrabahin

ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَتَوَاصَوا بِالصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوا بِالمَرحَمَةِ

Then he became one of those who believed, and recommended one another to perseverance and patience, and (also) recommended one another to pity and compassion.

Thumma Kana Mina Al-Ladhina 'Āmanū Wa Tawaşaw Biş-Şabri Wa Tawaşaw Bil-Marĥamahi

أُولَائِكَ أَصحَابُ المَيمَنَةِ

They are those on the Right Hand (the dwellers of Paradise),

'Ūla'ika 'Aşĥabu Al-Maymanahi

وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِآيَاتِنَا هُم أَصحَابُ المَشأَمَةِ

But those who disbelieved in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), they are those on the Left Hand (the dwellers of Hell).

Wa Al-Ladhina Kafarū Bi'ayatina Hum 'Aşĥabu Al-Mash'amahi

عَلَيهِم نَار ٌ مُؤصَدَة ٌ

The Fire will be shut over them (i.e. they will be enveloped by the Fire without any opening or window or outlet.
